PUZZLE / BROWSER PROJECT

Digger in browser

Lutz Roeder's HTML5 Digger opened Room 01 and responded to a short Up input. This identifies the author's browser implementation, not a verified DOS release; collection, later rooms, saves and mobile remain unverified.

Basis: project instructions and limited desktop entry observation. Observations: Oct 21, 2026. Conditions organized: October 21, 2026.

Up moved the character and cleared a short vertical patch in Room 01 without own files or sign-in. Score and collected remained zero; collection, ESC, DEL, completion, saves and touch input were not tested.

Project type: Native browser game

Lutz Roeder identifies a JavaScript HTML5 canvas game and links the checked room-based demo. No source claim establishes this build as the original DOS Digger or a console emulator; same-name games are not merged.

Classification organized October 21, 2026 from the recorded source and check notes; not a new gameplay test.

Before you open it

Getting started

  1. Open the repository's Play link and identify Room 01 and its counters before trying an input.
  2. A short Up input moved the character and opened a vertical patch in our check. Other directions and collection were not tested.
  3. Keep ESC restart and DEL next level separate from completion: both are source instructions, not actions verified in this visit.

What we checked

On October 21, 2026, the repository-linked demo displayed Room 01 with Diamonds 53, Lives 20, Score 00000 and Collected 00. A 200-millisecond Up input moved the character upward and cleared a short vertical patch. The later screenshot still showed Room 01, twenty lives, zero score and zero collected while the time counter continued to fall. No own files, sign-in or payment preceded this path. We did not collect an item, test falling objects, use ESC or DEL, exit a room, recover a save or test touch input.

The original repository describes JavaScript and HTML5 canvas and is archived. Its archive date is not its release date or a promise of ongoing maintenance. We classify this checked browser implementation without claiming it is the original Windmill DOS game, an authorized rerelease or a console emulator. Our screenshot records only the observed first room.

Which Digger (Lutz Roeder) project?

This Digger browser guide identifies Lutz Roeder's own JavaScript implementation and its repository-linked Play destination. The opening view was a tile-based Room 01 with a character, dirt, objects and room counters, not a directory landing page or an emulator file chooser. A brief Up input moved the character upward and cleared a short vertical patch. The source calls the project an HTML5 canvas game. We keep that identity explicit because the name Digger is shared by other releases, and a familiar name does not establish that this is the original DOS title or an official rerelease.

The source review and actual check took place on October 21, 2026. Room 01 showed Diamonds 53, Lives 20, Score 00000 and Collected 00 when inspected. The timer changed while the page remained open, and the saved screenshot was captured later than the first input observation. It records the same room with zero score and zero collected, not a solved route or a reward. The repository is archived, which is a support consideration rather than proof that its existing Play destination no longer responds. We did not establish an exact launch date for today's hosted build.

Six conditions for Digger (Lutz Roeder) in browser

Game files

The initial room loaded without asking us for an owned-game installation, ROM, disc image, archive or local asset URL. No plugin installation or source compilation was needed for the checked hosted visit. This is narrower than saying the game transfers no data: the page still obtained its own resources online. We did not inventory those transfers, disconnect the network or verify a cached offline session. Tab Game Guide supplies a source-linked record and its own screenshot rather than a playable mirror or downloadable game package. A file-free entry observation should not be reused as a general licensing claim about another same-name game.

Controls

The original README documents cursor-key play and separately lists ESC for restart and DEL for advancing to the next level. We held Up for 200 milliseconds and observed the character move upward with a short cleared patch behind it. That supports keyboard input for the directory, but does not verify every direction, item interaction or hazard rule. Neither ESC nor DEL was pressed. In particular, a documented level-skip command is not evidence of completing a room through play. We did not use a pointer alternative, rebind controls, connect a controller or establish that touchscreen gestures map to movement.

Account

No registration, username, email, password, payment or account-choice screen preceded Room 01 and its movement response. We entered no personal data and did not submit a score. The room's numerical score and life display are local game observations, not evidence of a public leaderboard, cloud profile or synchronized storage. We did not inspect every external author link or determine how another release handles accounts. Saving this guide in the directory only keeps a bookmark for its page; it cannot preserve the room timer, character position, life count or collection state in Lutz Roeder's external game.

Mobile gameplay

Not tested. The desktop visit used an arrow key and did not involve a phone, touch gesture, soft keyboard, device rotation or mobile controller. A canvas that fits inside this guide's narrow layout is an image-reading result, not a live test of the game's controls on that device. We did not check whether touch movement, audio, browser navigation or timing are practical on a small screen. A source implementation detail or another site's mobile label should not fill that evidence gap. Treat phone gameplay as unknown until the actual original entry has been exercised on a phone.

Full session

We stayed in Room 01 without collecting an item, entering an exit or verifying a later room. The observed score and collected counters remained zero in the saved view. Twenty lives was a displayed value, not proof of tested damage, restart behavior or a recovered life count. The timer continued to decrease during inspection, so its precise screenshot value should not be read as a promised start time or a performance measurement. Falling-object interactions, loss conditions, room completion and later difficulty were not tested. No save, refresh recovery or browser-restart recovery was performed, and an archived source does not resolve those questions.

HTTP link check

A separate HTTPS request to lutzroeder.github.io/digger/ returned HTTP 200 with zero redirects on October 21, 2026. Certificate validation remained enabled. The creator's repository links that destination directly, which distinguishes this observation from a similarly named game on an unrelated portal. Loading a document is still separate from rendering the room and accepting Up: all three stages should be kept distinct when reporting a later problem. The response does not guarantee later rooms, audio, persistence or future availability. We did not bypass a warning, replace the host or inject input state to produce the character movement.

Room counters, restart instructions and the Digger name

The screenshot contains useful limits as well as visible gameplay. Room 01 identifies the only room reached. Score 00000 and Collected 00 show that a successful collection was not established, even though the character moved. The changing timer makes two screenshots taken at different moments look different without proving a new action or room. Likewise, the README's restart and skip instructions describe intended controls but were not tested here. We have not used DEL to create an apparent later-level result. When comparing this project with another Digger page, check the author and destination first; a shared title is not enough to merge provenance, screenshots or compatibility claims. The archived repository continues to provide attribution and an original Play link, but is not evidence of active maintenance or a fresh release. This page therefore records the current room-and-movement observation without assigning an unsupported platform history or an exact publication day.

Digger (Lutz Roeder) browser FAQ

Which Digger game is this?

Lutz Roeder's JavaScript HTML5 canvas game at the Play link in his repository. This guide does not establish it as the original DOS Digger or an official rerelease.

Did the Digger browser controls respond?

Yes. A short Up input moved the character and cleared a vertical patch in Room 01. Other directions and item collection were not tested.

Were restart and next-level controls checked?

No. ESC restart and DEL next level are source instructions only. We did not press them or claim a completed room.

Do I need an account or my own files?

Neither was requested before the observed room and movement. No score, personal data or payment was submitted.

Were collection, saving or phone play verified?

No. The recorded room still showed zero score and zero collected. Room completion, save recovery and mobile input remain unverified.
