ACTION / BROWSER PROJECT

X-Type in browser

The original X-Type browser release reached combat and responded to a short D-key movement and pointer firing. We also inspected pause/resume; boss completion, high scores, saves and mobile remain unverified.

Basis: project instructions and limited desktop entry observation. Observations: Oct 19, 2026. Conditions organized: October 19, 2026.

A short D input moved the ship and a pointer press produced firing. Escape opened a menu and selecting Resume returned to combat. No account or own files were required before this path; a complete run, high-score submission and mobile were not tested.

Project type: Native browser game

The creator's making-of identifies an original JavaScript browser game and desktop controls. The checked X-Type is separate from XType Plus and is not a console emulator.

Classification organized October 19, 2026 from the recorded source and check notes; not a new gameplay test.

Before you open it

Getting started

  1. Open the original project and select Start Game. Read the displayed movement and shooting prompts.
  2. Our short D-key input moved the ship right and a pointer press produced firing. This does not verify every direction or a boss victory.
  3. Escape opened the pause/sound menu, and selecting Resume returned to combat. We stopped without high-score submission or another edition.

What we checked

On October 19, 2026, Start Game opened a controls scene showing WASD/arrows for movement and a mouse for shooting, followed by a boss encounter. A 250 ms D-key input shifted the ship right, and a 250 ms pointer press produced visible firing. Score observations rose through 40 and 50; the final gameplay screenshot showed 60. Escape opened a sound/pause menu. Escape alone did not establish resume in our follow-up; selecting Resume returned to combat. We did not change volume, submit a name or score, complete a boss, test saves or use mobile controls. No own files, registration or payment were requested before these actions.

Desktop browser · Oct 19, 2026

The creator's making-of identifies an original JavaScript game and explains desktop controls. Its June 27, 2012 publication is an article date, not an established first-publication day for the checked deployment. Its historical mobile discussion is source context, not a fresh device test. We did not use XType Plus, change sound settings, follow store links or submit data to a leaderboard.

Which X-Type project?

This X-Type browser guide identifies the original phoboslab.org/xtype/ release through its creator's making-of and games page. It is a space shooter with a portrait play area, not the separate XType Plus release. Start Game reached movement and shooting prompts followed by an opening boss encounter. A short D-key input shifted the player ship right, and a pointer press produced firing. The visible score changed while the encounter continued. This is evidence of basic desktop input, not a verified boss defeat, complete run or high-score service.

The source review and browser check took place on October 19, 2026. Score observations included forty and fifty; the final actual gameplay image showed sixty. Escape opened a menu with sound controls and Resume. A follow-up Escape did not establish a return to play, while selecting Resume did. We did not change the volume sliders or submit a score. These menu and scene observations are reported separately from the author's historical mobile discussion, which is not a current device-compatibility result.

Guide published . Source reviewed . Author release-page publication: Not established. The making-of is dated June 27, 2012, but it does not establish the first publication day of the checked browser deployment.

Six conditions for X-Type in browser

Game files

No game archive, ROM, installation folder or visitor-supplied asset package was requested before the opening encounter. The original site loaded its own online resources. We did not install a plugin, download another edition, import a run or compile a local build. No offline session, complete resource inventory or bandwidth measurement was performed, so a file-free opening is not a promise of zero download or permanent availability. The guide links the creator's actual project and instructions. Its local screenshot records our observation; it is not a mirrored game or a package of resources that can replace the original service.

Controls

The opening scene displayed WASD and arrows for movement and a mouse for shooting. We used D for 250 milliseconds and observed a rightward shift. A pointer press of the same duration produced visible firing toward the encounter. That supports the keyboard-plus-mouse category; the other directions were displayed but not tested. Escape opened the sound/pause menu, and selecting Resume returned to combat. We did not adjust sound values or infer that Escape alone toggles both directions of that workflow. Rebinding, controller input, touch controls, sustained dodging and a complete aiming test remain outside this sample.

Account

The title, instructions, combat and pause route required no registration, password or payment. We submitted no name and did not open a high-score entry workflow. An available score counter is in-game state, not confirmation that a result was stored or published externally. The account field therefore describes the tested start only; it does not assert the conditions of an unvisited leaderboard or store. Linked editions and community destinations were left unused. The directory bookmark is unrelated to an external score or game identity and cannot preserve the player ship, boss state or progress through an encounter.

Mobile gameplay

Not tested. The original page invites mobile visits and the creator's historical article discusses a mobile control design. Those are source statements, not our October 2026 phone results. We did not test touch sticks, a mobile keyboard, orientation changes, background audio or app-store editions. Our successful D-key and pointer inputs are desktop observations. A portrait canvas on a wide desktop display is not evidence of an actual phone session. Similarly, the guide's narrow-screen layout only ensures that these notes and the full portrait screenshot remain readable; it does not validate mobile gameplay, latency or cross-edition progress.

Full session

We remained in the opening encounter without confirming a defeated boss, next encounter, complete run or end condition. The score rose during inspection, and the final scene image showed sixty, but a changing score does not establish every mechanic or a successfully posted result. No sustained performance measurement, high-score submission, save export, import or reload recovery was attempted. The pause menu was inspected and Resume used, which is narrower than a persistence test. We also did not compare difficulty, additional modes or XType Plus. The screenshot shows the actual encounter reached and does not substitute for an extended playthrough.

HTTP link check

A separate HTTPS document request to phoboslab.org/xtype/ returned HTTP 200 with zero redirects on October 19, 2026. Certificate validation stayed enabled. The live page links its original making-of, and that article supplies creator context and control descriptions. An available document does not by itself prove the ship moves, so the input observations are recorded independently. Likewise, short firing does not validate all resources, a high-score endpoint, a store edition or future visits. We did not bypass warnings, alter requests to defeat a block or run injected code to change the score.

X-Type is not XType Plus

The creator's games page lists these as separate releases. This record covers the original browser address only and does not transfer its control result to another platform or edition. The making-of's June 2012 date belongs to the article; it is not silently reused as an exact launch day for the current deployment. Its old browser-performance discussion also should not become a modern compatibility guarantee. The useful distinction for this check is practical: the original entry loaded, one direction and firing responded, and a menu could be opened and resumed. Boss completion, score storage and another device still need their own evidence.

GOOD TO KNOW

X-Type browser FAQ

Which X-Type release was checked?

The original phoboslab.org/xtype/ browser game. XType Plus and store editions were not checked.

Which desktop controls actually responded?

A short D-key input moved the ship right, and a short pointer press produced firing. The other displayed movement keys were not exercised.

How did pause and resume behave?

Escape opened the sound/pause menu. A follow-up Escape did not establish resume; selecting the visible Resume option returned to combat. Volume settings were not changed.

Were files, an account or a high-score submission needed?

No own files or registration preceded the tested start. No name or high score was submitted, and persistence was not checked.

Did you defeat a boss or verify mobile play?

No. We observed the opening encounter and a score of sixty in the final image, not a verified boss defeat, complete run, save recovery or mobile session.
